Sanctified Shampoo

I haven't played Works for Me Wednesday in a while because frankly, I have run out of things that work for me. And the things that normally do? Now they fail me. Let's just say I'm way off my WFM game.
But just when all seemed hopeless, a small change in my shampoo has given me huge relief in my pocketbook and cleaning routine. I think that qualifies me to play again!
Please tell me - am I the only one who has children who dump out shampoo? I buy the cheap Suave brand because I know, I know, they are inevitably going to squirt it out all in the shower. BUT, recently I bought a 1/2 liter of Tresemme' shampoo with a bonus salon pump for $3.87 and my life is changed. The kids can't squirt it and I swear one bottle has lasted a month. I am so excited over this one silly little thing! I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've had to beg Jesus' forgiveness after getting hopping mad over shampoo messes so really, this little tip has enhanced my spiritual life as well.
And that, sisters, works for me.

** I haven't done a WFMW in a while but this week is the Greatest Hits edition. I chose to repost the tip that got the most comments from you. Without further ado, here is how to get your shower sparkling! **
Tilex Soap Scum remover - you have to have this, nothing else.
Soaped Brillo pads - the soap keeps them from scratching.
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers
A Large Cup
Here's What you do:
1. Run the shower hot for about 3-4 minutes to loosen everything up..
2. Spray Tilex from bottom to top covering all surfaces well and let soak for 5 minutes. (If you spray top to bottom, you'll get streaks that are impossible to get out)
3. You can't clean the shower without getting in it! Get in and scrub the walls first with your Brillo pad, bottom to top one wall at a time. As soon as you are finished with a wall, rinse well with your big cup. If you've missed a spot, Tilex again and repeat.
4. Clean the sides of your tub. Most of these are smooth so continue same process you used on your walls.
5. If you have a smooth bottomed-tub, you can continue with your Brillo pads. If it is textured, use the Magic Eraser. They really are magic! The tub bottom should be plenty wet from all your rinsing of the walls. By the time it has soaked while scrubbing everything else, the bottom comes clean pretty easily.
6. If you have shower doors, use the brush to scrub along the tracks and around the metal trim. Use Brillo pads on the glass, being careful to test an area first to ensure it will not scratch. Mine never have but don't want you to scratch your doors and blame it on me!
This sounds so hard and the first time it will be. After this, if you keep it up your cleaning will not take long at all. I actually clean the shower while I'm taking one sometimes..Two birds with one stone! :)) I also have to sing the praises of the Mr. Clean Shower Cleaning gadget Shannon talked about last week. I have one and they really work!

I read an enormous amount of literature that is quotable. Problem is, it's terribly easy to forget what I've read later on when I need something applicable for a particular project.
If you are a teacher, speaker, writer, etc., I think you'll find this little tip of great value when preparing material. Just the simple act of jotting down these notes also helps me recall where I've read a certain thing I want to use. Another quick note: If something knocks me upside the head when I read or hear it, I write it straight to my current journal.
And you may be thinking right now I'm about the geekiest girl on the planet.
But hey, it's just a little something that Works For Me!

The Best, Easiest Hot Fudge Cake EVER
A friend of mine and I had a discussion about Hot Fudge Cake and I assured her this recipe from my momma is the best EVER except she may not ever know for sure until I make one which is not likely to happen soon. In case she gives up, here is the recipe:
What you need (read the whole recipe through because I didn’t make an ingredient list..Paula Deen I ain’t):
One Devil’s Food Cake Mix (any brand is good) baked according to directions.
Here’s the secret part:
One Can of Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup
One Can of Eagle Brand Condensed Milk
One Stick of REAL Butter
Mix all three of these ingredients in a sauce pan and heat until it’s, you know, HOT.
The magic is in the presentation so, be sure you do this:
Cut the cake in squares and then cut a piece in half horizontally so as to have a top and bottom piece.
Drizzle some of the sauce on your plate first….All Emeril-like.
Put the bottom square of the cake down first.
Put a scoop of your favorite VANILLA ICE CREAM next.
Drizzle a little more chocolate.
Put on the top piece of cake and put a lot more chocolate.
Squirt WHIPPED CREAM over the whole mess and put a cherry on top.
I won’t even tell you this has a bazillion calories….just try not to think about it while you eat this scrumptuous thing.

Works For Me Wednesday

The past few weeks, I have been trying every conceivable way to limit drinking Diet Coke. You have no idea how painful this has been for me. Diet Coke makes me very, very happy. Because I can barely remember my own name anymore from the formaldehyde, aspertame, and other nutritious ingredients, I have decided I am going to limit the number I drink in a day. Here are a couple of things that are helping me do it:
1. I love canned drinks so I have only been refrigerating the two I am alotting myself in a day. I don't like D. Coke on ice so I am less likely to drink them if they aren't ice cold in the fridge.
2. When I do drink one, I force myself to drink twice as much water as the Diet Coke. Did I mention I absolutely hate water? My own warped sense of nutrition tells me somehow this dilutes all the cancer causing agents in the DC. And besides, shouldn't it be obvious drinking filtered sewage is so much better for you?
3. I only drink 1/2 a can at a time because, Egads! This plan is actually working! I never dreamed I would say this, but my beloved sodas are beginning to taste so sweet to me now that, [GASP], they aren't quite as good any more therefore I don't drink as much at one sitting. Now, I didn't say I like water more, just DC less. Soon, I'll dehydrate if I don't find an acceptable liquid alternative.
Don't know if any of the rest of you are detoxing, but if you are, hopefully what works for me will work for you!

I accidentally stumbled across the best way to scent the drawers in my dresser. I have never really cared if I had scented drawers, but when this happened I decided I loved it!
I had changed the Plug-Ins cartridges and somehow one ended up in my drawer. The fragrance was sooo good and it was an unexpected indulgence having my 'unmentionables' smell so nice. I think this is a great way to recycle those little cartridges when they are no longer strong enough to scent the room...I also have begun putting them in my boys' sock drawers. Their feet can use all the help they can get :)

Works For Me Wednesday

I heard the coolest tip the other day that I have not yet tried out for myself but if it well, actually worked, could be a great way to save Christmas money!
I have a friend who has opened a savings account at the bank inside her Walmart. Every time she shops there, she writes her check for $10-20 over the amount and promptly deposits it into savings. She does this all year and has quite a chunk to use towards her Christmas shopping..
I thought this sounded fabulous! Though I think you have to have a spare $100 lying around to open the account which could be an issue, in theory I can't think of an easier way to somewhat painlessly save for Christmas!
We'll see if it Works for Me!

WFMW - How to Shoe Shop Without The Kids

I vividly remember as a child my mother drawing an outline around my foot when she wanted to go shoe shopping but not with her three little daughters. This way she could match the foot impression up with the shoe since they can vary so much in size.
This is the most awesome idea ever! Simply trace around your child's foot, cut it out, fold it, place it in your wallet, and you'll never wonder if that pair of shoes on sale will fit your little one again!

Sweet Southern Lime Tea
The thing I missed most the few times I have been North of the Mason-Dixon was a good 'ole glass of sweet tea. Don't ya'll have sugar up there or do you just prefer colored water with your supper? In my humble opinion, unsweet tea is just a waste of a perfectly good tea bag.
If you've never had a proper glass of sweet tea, here is a classic recipe with a lime twist.
You'll Need:
3 Family Sized Lipton Tea Bags
1 small saucepan of boiling water or a kettle filled up to the nozzle hole on the inside. ( I don't know how much water that is...It's just how we measure down here.)
2 1/3 cups of Sugar
2 Fresh Limes
To Prepare:
Bring Water to a boil and add tea bags.
Remove from heat and let cool COMPLETELY. (This is very important. Fresh tea is bitter and just plain nasty. If you must make it more quickly, add a pinch of baking soda to take out the bitter.)
Add tea mixture and sugar in a gallon pitcher. Add water to top of pitcher and mix thoroughly. Chill.
To Serve:
Cut limes - You can either float in the tea if you want a decorative touch or serve lime slices with an individual glass.
I promise this tea will make you famous! :)
