New Blog Design is Live!

Hello girls!

Haven't posted on blogger in a while but wanted to jump on to let you know my new design is live at the new blog location www.apreacherswife.com. Please update your readers with this address as I will be deleting this blog in the next couple of weeks. I hope you will follow over to the new site!

xoxoxo,

Lisa

A NEW HOME!

It's official. I have a new home at www.apreacherswife.com! I'll be redirecting soon so if you still have any interest whatsoever in hanging out with me then update your readers, girls!

A Temporary Move

So I've been working on my blog design for hours upon hours upon hours. I used my test blog to work out a lot of kinks but when I tried to upload it here, my posts went haywire. SO, temporarily, I'm moving to www.thepreacherswife1.blogspot.com. If I can't work out the template issues here, chances are I'll be moving to a dot com. Y'all please be patient with me and come tell me what you think so far!

Lisa

A New Design?

In my little blog hiatus I've been playing around with designing a new website - all by myself!

Just in case you are impressed at my skillz? This isn't the one I'm working on. Mine is much less colorful as in currently my header consists of 'The Preacher's Wife' in a non-descript script. I'm having layering issues in Paint.net. I could read the instructions but that would be way too easy.

I found this template on Gosublogger.com and thought it would be fun to look at for a few days until I can get my ducks in a row and return to full-blown writing. I'm almost ready.

Almost.

Hope you are enjoying your summer!

Lisa

A Little Break

I typically don't announce a blogging break simply because the ones I generally take are not planned. However, this time it is planned and I just thought I would let you know so you could schedule your reading accordingly. {Oh, I kid.}

I do have a couple of giveaways I'll be announcing so watch your readers for those but in the meantime, I intend on not pressuring myself to add blog-writing to a very long list of to-do's. What I do intend on doing is savoring these last few days of 2008 with my family and praying about some things I would like to take place around here for the next year.

I'll pop in periodically over the next week or so, but for now, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

p.s. Am I the only blog on the planet who doesn't have a Boomama Christmas Home Tour posted today? Seriously. 600+!! You go, Sophie!

The Blog, It Is A' Changin' - Again

UPDATE: The toile-y background is now gone. I found this other background that's a bit more subdued...Better??

So, what do y'all think?

I was browsing around pre-made templates yesterday and the butterfly in this header called my name. There's still some tweaking I need to do here - like have some buttons made so I can get my navigation back, etc. but overall I wanted something completely different than I've ever had. Not to mention my other design is very summery and I'm just not feeling summery anymore.

What's the best is that Michelle at
Shabby Creations only charges 10 AMERICAN DOLLARS for her pre-mades. I had some money laying around in a paypal account that just covered it so basically, to me, the makeover was free. I love me some free.

So my main question is this. What do you think about the toile-y background? I'm toying with the idea of making it all creamy like the text background so it won't be so busy. Then I'll add some pizazz with my buttons/headers. Truthfully, does it make your eyes hurt as-is?

Okay, I'm off...I'm waiting for your honest feedback!

Blessings!

Lisa

p.s. I've only removed my Bible Promise box temporarily. Apparently they are having problems causing my blog to completely lock up last night. THE Most Important Word will be returning shortly

Various and Sundry

I just love fun little gadgets and I've just discovered a new one from Blogger. See that little box of people in my right sidebar? Those are my imaginary friends who read this blog!

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to look over there and see your faces. It also makes it easier to pop in and make visits to those of you who honor me by dropping by my place from time to time. If you want, I would be thrilled for you to add your face to mix by simply clicking on 'Follow this Blog'. Please? I want to know who is out there! :)

In other news, I am leaving in the morning to teach a Bible retreat in the Smoky Mountains. I would SO appreciate your prayers! This is the Sarah: Woman out of Control material I told you a bit about. As usual, I'm nervous but I suppose in a good way. I told my friend Patty that if a day comes when I cease being scared when I presume to teach God's Word then that will also be the day I quit.

So there.

In other news, I'm so hopping mad about price-gouging at the gas pumps I could just die. As soon as it was announced that Ike had shifted towards Houston and several oil refineries would cease production, gas jumped to 5 STINKIN' STUPID DOLLARS A GALLON at some of the independent stations in our county. The stations whose prices remained in the $3 range each had no less than 40-50 cars lined out of the parking lot. It was like the 1970's all over again.

At first I was determined I wouldn't buy into the mayhem but then remembered I have to drive to Gatlinburg tomorrow. I would have been double hopping mad if I had to pay $5/gallon at all the other stations tomorrow. SO, totally against my will, I sat in one of those ignorant gas lines and filled up. Gas had better be $5 tomorrow or I think my head will go ahead and pop off my shoulders.

Have you figured out by now I can be a bit of a ranter?

Oh, well. This is where I get to apply the lessons I'm about to teach this weekend. I can't control nor manipulate my day-to-day existence and expect any kind of lasting fulfillment. Only in letting go can I receive the fact I am supremely blessed in the here and now. Thank God, there is also a hereafter that promises more than I could ever ask or imagine and in it there will be no hungry babies, hurricanes, or overpriced pumps.

Praise the One who has it all under Control!

Techy Bloggy Alert

You may or may not be interested to know that I've changed my subscription service to Feedburner instead of Feedblitz. If you currently subscribe with Feedblitz, you should still get email updates; however, I changed because I intend to begin using the newsletter feature offered by Feedburner. If you aren't in my subscription list, you may not get notices about upcoming stuff around here. Because I know you'd be devastated if you were untintentionally left out - SIGN UP WITH FEEDBURNER NOW! (In right sidebar) You can unsubscribe from Feedblitz on your next email.

Good night and good luck.

Anyone Else Having Problems?

I'm trying like crazy to post about Mule Day, but I can not get any of my right click functions to work. Can't copy and paste links. Can't right click and save some photos I need. Anyone else having issues or am I the only blog-impaired girl tonight? (My right clicker is working everywhere except Blogger)

I'll try again tomorrow. I know you can't wait to hear about snot-blowing mules, bb gun shooting boys, my confrontation with an Asian arms dealer, funnel cakes, and taser guns.

Happy Labor Day!

We Pause This Program....

....for a couple of announcements.

Announcement Number One:

I felt compelled to let you girls know that if you are planning on going to the Siesta Fiesta, YOU'D BETTER GET YOUR TAIL TO THE SIESTA FIESTA BLOG, pronto. I am on information overload from all the details flying over there. (Not to mention you'll want to see a great picture of Kim in her entirely appropriate PJ's). Feel free to shout out here if you will be in San Antonio....Only 3 weeks! I'm fluctuating between little squeals and bouts of nerves thinking about All The Traveling.

Okay, Number Two:

Do you Twitter? I have to admit, since I've been incredibly busy with the book writing my blog writing has suffered. BUT - Twitter is a little micro-blog application where you can type a couple of sentences about what's going on.. Like I need another reason to play on the computer but I personally think it's a blast. If you'd like to follow my updates, go here.

If you DO Twitter and are having problems viewing your replies (due to technical problems on Twitter's end), I've just discovered you can see replies with no problem through Twhirl. I'm not even going to explain it, just go to the website if you are wondering what in the world I'm talking about.

Okay, that's all! My mind rests easier after information purges.

You're welcome.

Some Groovy Techie Stuff

I know many of you check in with your daily blogs on readers such as Bloglines, etc. Well I have a new reader to tell you about that will be of great interest to you on the Married to the Ministry Blogroll as well as anyone else who wants to be sure to follow Christian content.

I have created a group on a new site called Church Weblogs. I've not updated it lately, but the idea is that you will be able to view all of the M2M blogs in one reader instead of going through the blogroll every time. I really can't explain it well without your taking a look at it, so head over and let me know what you think! Once you arrive at the homepage, look to the right hand column for our listing. We are currently #2 in the most active webrings. You girls can crank out some posts!

Once you've selected our group you will be able to see the listed blogs. If you are a ministry wife and yours is not shown yet, choose "Add Weblog" and I will be able to approve your addition.

And if you haven't noticed, I'm Twittering! I thought it was kind of dumb at first but it's actually some fun stuff. Don't we all need one more reason to waste time on the computer? If you do, follow me at lisathepw.

Flood them for me, please???

VBS Week 2008 has been fruitful in more ways than one. It appears there has been a slurry of new bloggers out of my little hamlet! And guess what? They are all 17 and under! My three young buddies have decided to join the "MySpace For Old People" and jump into Blogger Land. Here they are, in no particular order:

Amber - Rocks in Your Shoes: Amber is the awesomely tanned teenage daughter of Deb at Miss Corinthians. Luke has tried to convince her to wait for one of my boys to marry but so far she isn't going for it. It's so unfortunate that betrothed marriages are no longer the rage. She will make someone a great wife seeing as how she has some mad kitchen skillz.

Jake - A Day in the Life: I was at the hospital with our forever bff's, Kim and Maury, the day Jake was born so to see my boy bloggin' thrills me more than you can imagine. It kills me to say he will be 15 soon. Beware of Gray Dodge trucks when that happens.

Hayden - Life Is Good: Hayden is the kind of guy every mom wants her son to be like. He and Jake's brother, Elijah, have worked themselves to death all week in VBS helping lead music. I am so proud of these 7th (almost 8th!) Graders who are bold in their faith and aren't afraid to act crazy for Jesus. The younger kids look to them more than they know. If Hayden and Elijah say wearing hula skirts and dancing in front of 150 people is cool - then it's cool.

UPDATE: Houston, we have another blogger. His name is Justin and is best buds with Hayden. The kid has a smokin' pitching arm - as does his little bro who happens to be my Son Two's pal. Go see him at Welcome to the Jungle!

I know blogging time is at a premium, but if you'd leave these kiddos a note to tell them how much they rock I sure would appreciate it - and so will they. :))

Peace out!

Something New - Something Cool!

Hey Girls!

Wanted to take a second to point out a new thing in my sidebar. Under 'Email Me' you'll see a link that says, "Click here to Chat". This is a chat forum I've added to my site.

I welcome you girls to hand around and talk awhile. I also plan on being able to schedule chats on topics for ministry wives, Bible Studies, etc. I'm certain there are lots of other uses but for now I just wanted to get it up and running to see what you think.

It's simple to use! Simply click the link, type in your name and hit Log In. You'll automatically enter the chat room. So hey, try it out! Tell me what you think and we'll look at some cool ways to use this thing. :)

Has It Really Been A Year?

I was thinking over the weekend about how long it had been since I began this blog. It then dawned on me that I started it in February of last year which meant, hello? Happy Blogiversary to me!

I'm actually a bit late acknowledging this wondrous occasion - something that should not surprise you one bit. But, in honor of the day I decided to republish my introductory post into blog world. As I re-read it the only thought that comes to my head is, "Whaaa?" I am embarassed to even put this back out there because it's just plain retarded but in being true to the origin of this blog, here you have it.

"If You Throw a Krystal Burger Hard Enough"

Why do i feed my kids in the car? It really is disgusting and being a preacher's wife and all, shouldn’t I have a meat and three veggies on the table every night? Shouldn’t I insist we hold hands and pray and sing Kumbayah ( spelling?) and pass mashed potatoes?

Shouldn't I?

Instead, I have learned that when you eat in the car (which happens mostly when we are running late for some sporting event which requires squalling tires out of the drive-thru instead of pulling over to distribute normally), Krystal burgers really are the best. If you throw them from the front seat of the Suburban to the very, very back seat, you can get just enough centrifugal force going to keep the burger from flying out of the box and all over the car. (Disclaimer: This method has not been tested on any vehicles shorter than the length of a house.) I am very good at this actually..there is a science to tilting the rearview mirror in just the right angle to be able to sling the box so as to hit just the right kid all without ever turning to look at them. They love the “catch the burger” game…forget the old boring “pass the potatoes” thing. Tell me I’m not the coolest mom EVER. Please Note: This does not work with burgers wrapped in paper. Isaac Newton may could explain the technicalities of it all, but can you just trust me on this one?

Something else you should know….If you don’t throw them hard enough to activate the centrifugal force phenomenon, well let’s just say that pickles, onion, and mustard go off like a nuclear bomb. and they stink up your car for a month. I won’t even talk about what they do to the bathroom. Preachers’ wives shouldn’t discuss such things, should we? Well I think potty humor is pretty funny actually. I have three boys, I have no choice.

Here’s the thing…I, and many of my compatriots do not submit to the stereotypical ”preacher’s wife” image you may have in mind. (I only submit to God, my husband, the authorities which is a different post, and NO, Ma’am, I’m not bitter about it…seriously!) I don’t wear sensible shoes or play the piano or heaven help us, sing. But I do love Jesus, I love my life, and it is so fun to share it with you. Welcome to this page. Hopefully it’ll get more spiritual. Anxious to hear about you….

Just Consider it Community Service

I wanted to share a little bit of Blogology with you today because it was literally months into my blogging experience before someone clued me to this little factoid.

Do you realize if you do not have an email address attached to your blog that girls on whose blogs you comment can not respond to you via email?

For example, I try very hard to return visits but on most days I am trying so desperately to keep the underwear clean and the bathrooms from corroding that I don't allow myself the computer time I need to get around as much as I'd like. However, what I can do is reply to your comments. It breaks my little heart to see a 'no-reply comment blogger' because I really, really want to talk to you!

Now some of you have elected to do this on purpose and that is totally understandable. No issues there. But, for the ones of you who were like me and were simply unaware, I'm just letting you know that you may be unwittingly cutting yourself off from communication.

If privacy is a concern, the simplest thing to do is create an email account at Gmail, Hotmail or the like and have that be your blog email address so no personal information is disclosed.

Oh well...this may not be anything in the world y'all care about but thought I'd mention it just in case....

((Is it just me or does it seem I've done nothing but whine today??..:)))

Have an awesome night! Mine couldn't be better seeing as how basketball ended Saturday!

(Am I the only mom who ever secretly wished for kids to lose in a tournament so we could just stay home?;)

Okay, now I'm really going to leave. Right now. No more rambling.

Cya.

Luv ya.

(Bye.)

Welcome to the Fold...

I've just learned that three great girls whom I love have started blogs! It absolutely makes my heart sing when my friends join in my obsession. Will you be ever so precious and stop by to welcome them to BlogLand?

Amanda at I'll Try! is a member at our church and is absolutely one of the most precious teenagers you will ever meet. She has a heart for God at 18 that would rival any of us who are, let's say, older than 18. I only have one thing against her. She started a blog and didn't tell me. For all of you other church girls out there - please refer to the church covenant which states, "Lisa must be made aware of any and all blog activity within the body. Because she loves them. And she'll have her feelings hurt if I don't." I forgive you, Manda. :)

~and~

Natalie at Married to the Preacher is one of our deacon's daughter-in-laws. Did you catch that one? She and her husband Michael have just taken a new pastorate in North Carolina and have a new baby that is 6 months old. We've only gotten to spend minimal time together when she and Michael come to visit family, but I'm looking so forward to connecting with her online. I love my ministry girls and especially ones related to our own church body.

~and~

Carrie at A New Heart is one of my good girlfriends here in town. We have bonded over many a ballgame. She has a relationship with her sisters that would challenge anything on a sitcom. These girls are all stinkin' hilarious and there is nothing more fun than spending a summer on the sidelines with them. She also didn't tell me she had a blog but I have my ways of finding these things out, people. You can run but you can not hide. :)

If Amanda, Natalie, and Carrie are anything like me when I started my blog, they have no idea yet what community and friendship await them on the otherside of that computer screen. Please run by and introduce yourselves. They'll be blown away!

Thanks, girls!

Why The Preacher's Wife?

The most obvious reason my blog is called The Preacher's Wife is the fact my husband, Luke, is a preacher. We've been in ministry 15 years now and currently serve in a small town in Alabama where you are known by association moreso than name - especially if you are relative newcomers like Luke and me. When we eat in the local restaurant or I run into the grocery store I am rarely called by Lisa but rather I'm greeted with, "Hello, Mrs. Preacher's Wife".

And I pretty much love it.

Blog Faves

Here are some of the blogs that I consider my favorite. I'm sure I'll be adding more but here's a starter list for your enjoyment.

"I love technology....."
Kip Dynamite

Ya'll, my computer is seriously tired. I never noticed we had much issue with page load speed until I started blogging and now it seems like it takes forever stinking ever to get from one page to another. If you think I am snobbing you on commenting on your blogs, I am SO not trying to...It just takes 3 hours to get to everyone in my sidebar much less you new girls I am loving to read. Feedblitz is looking better and better but I miss commenting with that...Luke and I are also competing for computer time on a much larger scale as we both are frantic to get our sermons/Bible studies typed, complete school work, and work in a friendly game of Luxor when the addiction mood hits.

So, I've decided to start saving my money towards a lap top...This may take a while seeing as I have no job or anything so technically, I do not have any money to save. I should say that Luke will start saving money for me a laptop though he may not totally be aware of this yet...I do have a birthday and Christmas coming up so maybe I can find some justification in there somewhere.

What I need to know from you is, do any of you have laptops you are in love with? That are lighting fast and don't weigh 50 lbs? That are easy to plug in to a printer? Will I need a separate printer or is it just as easy to hook in with the one I have for my desktop? If so, please tell me about them. I don't know anything about all the Gigabytes and Mhz stuff or cd write speeds...I just need someone to tell me what I need to get that works for you....Once I figure this out I'm going to get an idea on price so I can start collecting Luke's change and writing my grocery checks for $20 over...You know the drill...

This sister in need thanks you in advance for all the yummy technical advice I just know you are going to send my way! :)
